Heavily popular Day Z mod to become standalone PC exclusive title

Any gamer worth his or her salt knows about the immensely popular mod entitled, Day Z. Working through Bohemia Interative's ARMA II, the studio has just announced that an exclusive standalone PC game centered around Day Z is being developed. The best part? Everything you're doing in Day Z right now will be coming with you.

Creator of the original mod, Dean Hall will be heading up the project as per his announcement via the Day Z Tumblr. While he hasn't said too much about the project as of yet, he did mention this juicy tidbit:

"Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price."

As much as everyone enjoys the PC modding community for any kind of game, it's always that much better when an official game ends up being created. Take a look at DOTA 2 if you need further evidence. I'll also be very interested to see how Hall will pull things from his mod to the actual game. For more information, you can check the upcoming Day Z official website or head back here when more is available.

  1. You may want to let everyone know it's coming out in just a few months. In a recent interview hall was quoted stating their shooting for a December release date. Which is a extremely short production cycle from mod to stand-alone game.

not much is being said about how big or even who the team is(even though we know its bohemian's studio doing the job). As someone who understands the game developerment cycle This puts into question the quality of the finished product. I wonder if this will truly be stand alone game or just the mod with a few extra features and a price tag.

I'm a huge fan of dayz and have been for months. One of the biggest attraction's was the "mystery" the game had. making the gamer question "what can I find?" or "I wonder whats over here?". With a lot of that mystery gone it feels like the community has slowly started degrading between hackers and devastating bugs it's sometimes very hard to enjoy the game.

Hall has stated that he is working hard to fix both those issues for stability but nothing on if it will be worth someone like me or any hardcore dayz player to pay for a stand alone version.

    1. There are quite a bit of questions about this, but while that release date is drawing near, it's only tentative. We really have no clue if it's going to release this year.
